In the forest of Varjakka, just outside Oulu in Northern Finland, you can find the remains of the concrete foundations of two streets of wooden houses that were home to the workers of the Varjakka Sawmill during the early 20th century.
Using this app, you can step back in time to explore the neighbourhood. Point the camera of your phone towards any of the signs around the foundations and the buildings will appear. You can explore inside and outside the houses by moving your phone calmly from one marker to the next.
ARMCHAIR MODE enables you to explore the houses without using AR - simply swipe and pinch to fly around the site, or use the direction arrows to walk more naturally.
Enabling GALLERY MODE swaps the interior of the houses for virtual gallery space and features a programme of artwork created in the area.
Take extra care when using augmented reality - the ground is uneven and there are many things you could trip over. Also be aware of other people.
